Assistance needed (.flv converter)

I'm sure this is such a common question that this request could go
below the radar, so if there is a faq just point me to it. But I'm
looking for a freeware flv to mpeg conversion app with no spyware or
other backdoors. I figure that there are various versions out there,
so I'm more curious as to which one is the more popular?

I use "ffmpeg". "VLC media player" is another option if you need a gui.
